Formal Approaches to South Asian Languages (FASAL) is the main North American venue dedicated to the presentation and discussion of linguistic research on South Asian languages. We welcome submissions that draw on data from South Asian languages (including Austro-Asiatic, Dravidian, Indo-Aryan, and Tibeto-Burman languages) using a wide range of methodologies.Submissions on under-researched and endangered South Asian languages, submissions from minority groups, and submissions from researchers based in South Asia are encouraged.
Mini workshop
FASAL 15 will include a mini workshop on Discourse Dynamics in South Asian Languages. Over the past decade and a half, there has been increasing interest in investigating discourse phenomena in South Asian languages - with studies investigating question particles, intonational strategies, evidentiality, and discourse particles. We welcome submissions that contribute to this growing area of research including but not limited to work on clause-type signals, their modifiers, intonation, and discourse particles in South Asian languages that explore the role of such strategies in constraining and updating contexts.
