In an era marked by increasing environmental volatility and socio-economic challenges, the need for robust disaster risk management and resilience building has never been more critical. The 2024 Hybrid TIEMS Annual Conference in India will serve as an important platform to gather global experts, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to address the critical need for effective disaster risk management and resilience building. The theme of the conference is pivoted on three close-knit aspects of disaster management – risk governance, resilience building, and humanitarian programming. Risk governance involves managing risks and uncertainties to reduce their impacts on communities and infrastructure. With the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters, robust governance frameworks are essential for sustainable development. Resilience building enhances the capacity of individuals, communities, and systems to anticipate, absorb, recover from, and adapt to adverse events. The conference will highlight strategies and technologies that support resilience, emphasizing proactive measures and community engagement. Humanitarian programming must adapt to the complex interplay between natural hazards, climate change, and human vulnerability. This conference will explore and bring together global perspectives and local experiences to improve effectiveness and sustainability of humanitarian efforts. It is in the context of these three interconnected aspects of disaster management that the conference entails a rigorous discourse on Risk Governance, Resilience Building, and Humanitarian Programming in a Changing World The four-day conference programme is further curated along four key themes as global perspectives on disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, innovations in disaster management, and critical infrastructure protection.
