"Constructionist Approaches to Language Pedagogy" (CALP) is a biennial international conference that previously took place in Brussels (2013), Basel (2016), Austin (USA, 2018), and Erlangen (2024). The goal of this conference is to explore how Construction Grammar (Fillmore 1988, Croft 2001, Goldberg 2006) can inform and advance Language Pedagogy by creating innovative teaching strategies and educational resources.
Submission Guidelines
We invite contributions that thoroughly explore constructionist approaches to teaching first, second, foreign, or third languages, with a focus on, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Teaching a language via its constructions
- Constructionist language resources for language pedagogy
- ConstructiCons and constructicography
- Construction-based exercises
- Use of AI for building constructiCon resources
- Use of AI for identifying and describing constructions
- Use of AI for designing construction-based exercises
- Construction-based design of language proficiency tests
- Identification of constructions specific to professional jargon
- Representation of dialectal constructions in language teaching
- Contrastive studies of constructions and their use in language instruction
- Constructional rivalry
- Constructions in heritage language
- Acquisition of constructions
The working language of the conference is English. The oral presentations will be 20 minutes long, followed by 10 minutes for discussion.
Please submit an abstract of no more than 500 words, excluding references, clearly indicating the research question, data, methods, and major contributions of the study.
The deadline for abstract submission is October 1, 2025, at 24:00 CET. All abstracts should be submitted digitally via EasyChair.
We especially encourage the submission of abstracts by early career researchers.
