Department of Cultural Study, Universitas Sebelas Maret warmly welcomes you to The International Conference on Cultural Studies (ICCUS). The ICCUS 2024 is the 2nd series since the 1st series was held in 2023.
This conference will be held on September 14th, 2024. We encourage participants from all over the world to discuss about “Art, Urban Culture, and Global Ethics”.
Contemporary political phenomena influence the city atmosphere. Some time before the General Election in Indonesia, political party contestation has given rise to political segregation which is expressed in poetry, caricatures, party symbols and control of urban space. Furthermore, the city is synonymous with political hegemony and protests. In other parts of the world, war has damaged urban culture, such as in the Middle East, as well as giving rise to growing protests from communities in other world cities. Politically, this gives rise to the term identity politics, a politics based on embracing equality based on the similarities of a group to achieve a certain goal, for example to gain recognition for the group's identity or raise the level and dignity of the group. Identity politics drives the actions of city residents to achieve certain political goals. This identity politics capitalizes on race, ethnicity, language, customs, gender and religion, giving rise to conflicts of interest between city residents.Meanwhile, on the cultural side, a new term has emerged known as "hustle culture", a culture of hard work patterns above the normal threshold with the aim of achieving success in a field. The impact of this "hustle culture" is damage to the social order system, city residents become slaves to technology, and toxic negativity. Both political, social, cultural and economic due to global influences give rise to vertical and horizontal conflicts. There is a need for a global ethic of "cultural diplomacy" as a solution as well as a basic consensus related to binding values, irrevocable standards and moral attitudes, which can be affirmed by all religions, even non-religious ones.
There is no survival in the world without global ethics, that peace between social elements will not be created without diplomatic dialogue and cooperation between civilizations with an open mind and tolerance. How do social humanities describe the current changing urban arts, culture and socio-political phenomena from various scientific disciplines?
Notable Keynote and Invited Speakers will share their speeches, participants will present their papers, and we will provide a platform to support new opportunities and future collaboration. Your participation and contribution at ICCUS 2024 will be greatly appreciated!
