Special Sessions
We welcome proposals for special sessions encompassing diverse areas of Human Factors and Ergonomics at IEA2024. These special sessions aim to create a platform for focused discussions on new topics or innovative applications within established approaches. Potential subjects may include emerging or persistent problems, development of research agendas, networking to identify common interests and possibilities for cooperation, analysis of domain problems with domain experts, contests focused on specific problems, and more.
Doctoral Colloquium
- Chair: Prof. Sunghee Kim (sh.kim@deu.ac.kr)
- The Doctoral Colloquium (DC) for IEA 2024 is an exclusive half-day event scheduled for August 28, 2024. It provides a platform for Ph.D. students to present their proposed dissertation work and receive valuable feedback from experienced senior researchers in the field of Human Factors and Ergonomics. The DC is open to all Ph.D. students, with a preference for those in the early stages of their research journey, particularly those who have recently formulated their dissertation topics. The goal is to facilitate networking, mentorship, and diversity among participants in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Human Factors & Ergonomics - x
- Chair: Prof. Sungho Kim(sunghokim1123@gmail.com)
- The HFEx initiative, inspired by TEDx conferences, focuses on concise presentations within the realm of Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE). These talks aim to explore how HFE can be used to optimize human well-being, safety, and performance in technology, systems, and environments. Speakers have a maximum of 18 minutes without a Q&A session, and alternative formats are welcome. The initiative encourages discussions on various themes, including ergonomic design for well-being, technological interventions, cognitive well-being, sustainable design, the future of work, inclusivity, ethics in human-technology interaction, and HFE's role in emerging technologies. Diversity of perspectives and opinions is highly valued in these sessions.
Symposium
- Chair: Prof. Taezoon Park (tzpark@soongsil.ac.kr)
- A collection of at least 4 papers, possibly with a group-discussion element. Recruitment of papers to symposia is the coordinators’ responsibility.
- Suggested topics are following but not limited to:
- Workspaces of the future
- Neuroergonomics
- Human-Robot Interaction in the Workplace
- Trends in Affective Design Research
- Digital Human Modeling in Protective Equipment Design: Applying Anthropometrics
- Ergonomics in smart healthcare technologies design
- The impact of climate change on women’s work and gendered division of work
Workshop
- Chair: Prof. Taebeum Ryu (tbryu@hanbat.ac.kr)
- Workshops provide a platform for informal discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among experts in the field. They should focus on emerging ideas, interdisciplinary concepts, or technologies, and aim to create reports or proposals that engage the entire HFE community. Workshop topics can include addressing new or persistent problems, setting research agendas, networking, and interaction with domain experts. Proposers are encouraged to consider pre-approved workshop topics and aim to avoid significant overlaps.
Panel Discussion
- Chair: Prof. Taebeum Ryu (tbryu@hanbat.ac.kr)
- Panel discussions is to foster conversations about pressing issues in Human Factors and Ergonomics, bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise to advance our understanding and solutions in this field. These discussions should bring together different groups, explore interdisciplinary ideas, and connect experts with those interested in HFE. Panels should include experts from various fields, discussing challenges in HFE, including those related to new technologies like artificial intelligence. Diversity in panelists' backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, and nationalities is encouraged to make the discussions more interesting and inclusive.
Alternative Forms
- Chair: Prof. Taezoon Park (tzpark@soongsil.ac.kr)
- Combinations of the aforementioned presentation formats are not only welcome but also encouraged. Attendees have the flexibility to explore various presentation styles, such as workshops and panel discussions alongside traditional talks, to create a rich and dynamic conference experience. This approach allows for a more comprehensive exploration of topics, encourages collaborative learning, and facilitates in-depth discussions on emerging issues within the field of Human Factors and Ergonomics. It's an opportunity for participants to engage with diverse formats and maximize the value of their conference involvement.
