LIRAI entails a series of workshops centered around Legal Information Retrieval and Legal Artificial Intelligence. It serves as a platform for exploring contemporary trends and addressing challenges within the realm of legal artificial intelligence, particularly emphasizing the hypertextual nature of legal documents and associated retrieval tasks. In its second iteration, LIRAI concentrates on three primary areas:
-
explainable/justifiable artificial intelligence,
-
hybrid systems that integrate formal approaches with machine learning /deep learning methodologies, and
-
generative artificial intelligence.
Legal documents have been linked with hypertext for a long time when it comes to managing legal information. Hypertext technologies help make legal information more accessible, collaborative, and efficient. Working with legal documents means handling information about many different types of connections. This includes clear links through citations, hidden ties from shared concepts, and structured setups, such as national laws influenced by international agreements.
Changes and additions make these connections dynamic, while related regulations and guidelines give extra guidance. Legal decisions from past cases create important connections, and references inside documents help keep everything consistent. In places with different levels of laws (such as federal and state laws), recognizing these connections is crucial for a thorough understanding of legal information. It helps guide legal professionals through the complex web of legal knowledge.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. We accept short and regular papers. The submission guidelines can be found on the workshop website: https://sites.google.com/view/lirai-2024/call-for-papers.
