Abstract

This article characterizes the didactic effort that was necessary to do at the level of the curricular organization in the matters of Statistics taught in the War School because of the Portuguese participation in World War I. The First World War constituted a conflict that Portugal participated actively. Responding to this appeal, the special regime (1916-1919), mode of operation adapted to the needs of the War, was the solution that the institution found to deal with this situation. The School tried to adapt the teaching to the war effort, revealing a didactic effort and a remarkable capacity of organization. In this period, training in Statistics already plays an important role, but it is divided into several seats.

Keyphrases: Lessons of Ballistics, Teaching of Mathematics and Statistics, War school, World War I
