Most of the time, the cost is prioritized over thermal comfort and its energy efficiency, especially in the social interest category. However, the civil construction sector has a significant potential to contribute to global energy-saving and sustainability goals, considering the planning, execution, and operation of buildings. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the energy efficiency and the thermal performance of a social housing proposal implemented in Betim, Brazil. The NBR 15,220/2005, NBR 15,575/ 2013 as well as the RTQ-R and LEED requirements were used as a reference. The building class was “B” and “SILVER” for the RTQ-R and LEED certifications, respectively, without any changes in its original design. The results indicate compliance with thermal performance regulations and high scores in energy efficiency level, against other studies. Thus, as it is a design phase project, it is still possible to implement additional alternatives that can result in better scores for these certifications.
