Abstract

This paper introduces a robust Grey-Analytic Network Process (Grey-ANP) approach,

designed to improve the assessment and selection of smart nanomaterials for

environmental remediation. By integrating the flexibility of Grey Systems Theory

with the structured prioritization of the Analytic Network Process (ANP), our

methodology addresses the inherent uncertainties and interdependencies among

evaluation criteria. The Grey-ANP approach systematically incorporates expert

judgments and quantitative data to evaluate critical factors such as material properties,

environmental impact, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance. Case studies on

the application of various nanomaterials, including carbon nanotubes, graphene-based

materials, and metal-oxide nanoparticles, demonstrate the efficacy of the Grey-ANP

method in providing comprehensive, reliable decision support. Our findings suggest

that the Grey-ANP approach offers a robust framework for stakeholders to make

informed, balanced decisions in the deployment of smart nanomaterials, ultimately

contributing to more sustainable and effective environmental remediation strategies.
