Study on EAHE System Combined with Several Components in the Medan City

Abstract

Energy demand for space cooling and heating in buildings is a primary contributor to total energy consumption. Its rapid increase calls for an urgent need to utilize renewable energy sources and associated energy-efficient technology in the building sector. Among different renewables, geothermal energy has been widely adopted due to its easy access and low impact on the environment. The method for this research uses Earth-Air Heat Exchanger (EAHE) and solar energy as air conditioning. This study aims to determine the variation of the exit temperature (Tout) for each given mass flow rate, the efficiency of solar collector, the efficiency of solar chimney and Pout also the efficiency of photovoltaic as the source of blower current. In this study, ambient air is circulated into the pipe with speeds varying between 3 m/s and 2 m/s. The experimental results found that at the intake air velocity (Vair = 3 m/s), the average Tout for the experimental results was 27,93° C and for the theoretical results was 25.04 °C with an average Tin of 33.79°C. Meanwhile, for the intake air velocity (Vair = 2 m/s), the average Tout for the experimental results is 28,81°C and for the theoretical results is 25.04 °C with an average Tin of 32.15 °C. The effectiveness of this heat exchanger is 79.79% at Vair = 3 m/s and 75.71% at Vair = 2 m/s. The efficiency of solar collector was obtained by 79.76%, and the efficiency of the solar chimney was obtained by 58%. As well as Pout from the first photovoltaic of 45.46 watts with an efficiency of 9.32% and the second photovoltaic of 46.20 watts with an efficiency of 9.80%.
