Optimization of Electrical Discharge Machining of Al-Mg-TiO2 Metal Matrix Nanocomposites

EasyChair Preprint 1873

14 pagesDate: November 7, 2019

Abstract

Pure Al-Mg metal is toughened with TiO2 nano particle fabricated by a stir - casting process. Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is one of the nontraditional machining processes used to cut the harder and intricate components. Voltage (V), current (Ip), pulse on time (Ton) and pulse off time (Toff) are considered as input parameters. The objective of this study was to achieve a higher material removal rate (MRR), lesser tool wear rate (TWR) and surface roughness (Ra) of Al-Mg-TiO2 nano composite. The Minitab-14 Software is used to design the L27 orthogonal array. The optimal suitable values of input parameters are found, and the most influencing parameters are identified by ANOVA. Grey relational analysis is applied to obtain the optimal value of input parameters for the response levels.

Keyphrases: Material removal rate, Metal Matrix Nanocomposite, Surface Roughness., Tool wear rate
