Students’ Perception of Online Education During the Covid- 19 Pandemic: an Analysis of Students of Higher Education Sector in Sri Lanka

Abstract

The Covid – 19 pandemic has brought online education into the higher education sector in Sri Lanka on a greater scale. E-learning becomes the new trend of teaching and learning during the pandemic. The main objective of this study is to investigate the higher education students’ perception of online education during the pandemic. This study used a quantitative method, and data were analyzed through the statistical method. A survey was conducted by deploying an online questionnaire among the undergraduates of 15 state universities. The total respondents were 116 who followed online classes during the pandemic. The result reveals that students have both positive and negative perceptions of online education. Few students (25.9%) prefer online education but most students (38.8%) don’t enjoy online education and some students (35.3%) who neither like nor dislike online education. In conclusion, students’ have both positive and negative perceptions of online education. This exploration will be more useful to comprehend the issues and difficulties faced by students during this pandemic time. This research will be useful for academics, educators, lecturers, and institutions to distinguish the personal and health issues among students and to improve the quality and the standard of online education.
