Abstract

A comprehensive understanding of the concept of Industry 4.0 is needed to evaluate the overall plethora of I4.0 enabling technologies and identify their application domains and uses. The main aim of this research is to contribute to the state of the area by evaluating the main application fields of Industry 4.0 and analyzing which enabling technolo- gies are used in use cases in the industrial world as well as creating two taxonomies: one for enabling technologies in Industry 4.0 world and the second for classifying I4.0 problems. Knowledge of this relationship can be used for the strategic planning of industrial companies in practice for both product innovation and product optimization. This objective has been achieved by reviewing the state-of-the-art of Industry 4.0 based on recent developments in the academic world and real use cases in indus- trial enterprises.
