Social Media: Changing Landscape in Language Interaction

Abstract

Social media is one of the major platforms in digital world. In 20th century new technologies were developed for people’s comfort and life style. Social Media like Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter, Instagram, and other websites are used predominantly for communication purposes. Interactivity is one of the significant elements in the communication process and plays a major role in forging relationships between users in social media platforms. Despite many fold research studies done in the area of communication and related aspects, there still exists various arenas that are unexplored. It is observed that users use social edia outlets and platforms for texting, rich media content, updating status etc. The current research is undertaken to identify the changes in texting pattern among users using English language and the impact of language in social media interactions by adopting quantitative research approaches through questionnaires among respondents in Periyar University, Salem.
